It’s All About Coral: Celebrating Pantone’s 2019 Color of the Year
In early December, international color authority Pantone announced that “Living Coral” is its choice for the 2019 Color of the Year. As it has done every year since 2000, Pantone’s COY selection committee gathered trends from the worlds of fashion and jewelry, home décor, technology, and social media, and pronounced that the color coral is thriving in the current zeitgeist. Let’s take a look at some coral fashions from the latest Ready-to-Wear collections, with exquisite, ethically sourced coral jewelry by Assael.
Coral with the New Nudes & Neutrals
Ever since Priyanka Chopra dazzled the Met Gala in a Ralph Lauren trench coat gown, designers have gone mad for khaki, chino, camel, and classic beige fabrics. For Spring ’19, many, including Burberry, Brandon Maxwell, and Vera Wang, are showing neutral monochromatic daywear, deconstructed trenches, and tulle evening gowns in nearly nude colors. It all adds up to the perfect blank canvas for precious gem coral jewelry, from orangy-pink Angel Skin to reddish-orange Sardinian Coral. Shown above are stunning new jewels featuring vintage Angel Skin Coral, from the design team at Assael.
Coral on Coral
Mixing shades of coral—pinks to oranges to reds—will be a top priority for designers and fashion girls in 2019. Ulla Johnson’s luxe bohemian looks for spring mix brick-red skirts with coral peasant blouses, just right with a Sardinian Bubble Ring by Sean Gilson for Assael. Marc Jacobs calls on coral for his poufy cocktail dresses (the look that launched a thousand ruffles). They’d be splendid with Assael’s Angel Skin Coral and Diamond Flame Earrings.
Meet Corallia
As North America’s foremost purveyor of responsibly sourced coral, Assael CEO Christina Lang Assael was interviewed by Robb Report for an article on the importance of sustainability. Her latest eco-conscious collection is designed exclusively for Neiman Marcus and stars ethically sourced Sciacca Coral from Sicily. “This unique and exuberant Sciacca Coral is beloved for its intense shades of salmon-pink to orange-red,” said Mrs. Assael. “It is found in only one place on Earth, the Sicilian Channel, which is one reason why properly harvested gem coral is so valuable and precious!”
