Spring ’19 Fashion Trends | Layering Is Luxe
One of the most important trends for Spring ’19 is the art of layering. For instance, beige-on-beige is especially popular this season, as are mixed prints and layered separates in different textures to create visual interest. On the ready-to-wear runways, top designers embraced layered looks in their jewelry choices as well, including cascading necklaces at Chanel, rings on every finger at Marc Jacobs, and bracelets stacked up to there…everywhere. Here are a few tips on how to layer magnificent pearls and exquisite coral with Spring ‘19 fashion trends, compliments of our friends at Assael.
At the Chanel show in Paris, models strolled barefoot on a man-made beach in the multilayered looks so favored by the legendary Coco Chanel. Mademoiselle started it all in the 1930s, mixing pearls, chains, and gemstones together. Chanel’s 2019 beach beauties sported the same, in addition to pearl trim on oversized blazers with sleek black leggings. The experts at Assael suggest channeling Chanel’s “eclectic couture” look by layering long ropes of cultured South Sea pearls, and Keshi pearls, some with moonstone, morganite, and sapphire. Stack several pearl and gold cuffs Chanel style, and add creamy South Sea pearl earrings to top things off.

Layered “power separates” are trending for spring, as seen at Dior, Alessandra Rich, Gucci, and Burberry. Consider anchoring your jackets and knife-pleated skirts, or trousers, with natural color Tahitian pearls and gem coral. One of the most luscious color pairings we’ve seen in years occurred not long ago at an Assael photo shoot in Miami. “When the stylist layered a pale pink Angel Skin coral necklace over silver-grey Tahitian pearls, a hush came over the studio,” said Joe Padulo, Assael’s advertising guru. Shown with matching Bubble Earrings by Sean Gilson for Assael, this unexpected combination is stunning on white, black, and spring’s new nudes and neutrals.
According to Julia Chaplin, who literally wrote the book(s) on Gypset Style, “Gypsetters are artists, designers, and bon vivants who live and work around the globe.” The New York Times calls the look “Wanderlust meets the height of sophistication,” and it has grown into a Neo-Bohemian trend which many designers have adopted this season. Leaders include Paris-based Paco Rabanne and Italian brand Missoni who layer dramatic colors, rich paisleys, and patchwork silk scarves with luxurious jewelry. Caftans and sarongs look exotic with several layers of fiery Sardinian coral by Assael. Add a sumptuous Five-Row Sardinian Bracelet, or a pair of Sardinian drop earrings, and you’re all set to conquer the world this spring!
