6 Ways Spring/Summer 2018 Brides Are Loving Pearls
We’ve reached the end of summer wedding season, and what a spectacular season it has been. High-profile brides including Pippa Middleton, Miranda Kerr and Jessica Chastain have set a high bar for Instagram-worthy wedding gowns and accessories. Is it your turn next?
At New York Bridal Fashion Week in April, top wedding wear designers presented their collections for Spring/Summer 2018. We spotted a common theme that ran throughout the major shows: an unmistakable passion for pearls and pearl jewelry.
Lustrous pearls can provide a magnificent glow on your big day, unlike any other gems. Let’s take a look at some highlights from the S/S ’18 bridal collections.
Top designers are featuring breathtaking pearl necklaces for Spring/Summer 2018 brides. Naeem Khan and Monique Lhuillier presented dramatic multi-strand pearls in graduated lengths. Lhuillier celebrated the Boho bride with ropes of cross-body pearls wrapped around the bodice. Lela Rose opted for multi-row chokers, a regal look with her off-the-shoulder designs.
Statement earrings for brides have been big for several seasons, and next spring they’ll be bolder than ever. Nearly every style was represented on the New York runways, from pearl ear cuffs to long pearl drops to chandeliers.
Feathers & Pearls
Making a case for whimsical texture, Marchesa, Berta, and Mira Zwillinger are embracing feathers. Berta embellished an entire short wedding dress in heavenly white feathers, while Marchesa emphasized only the skirt. Zwillinger feathered her sleeves, hems and necklines, adding feminine pearl-and-feather earrings.
Spring 2018 will be the season of the capelet! Shown at several key collections, the sophisticated topper can serve as a cover-up for the ceremony and can be removed for the reception. “The most forward designs almost doubled as large jewelry pieces,” reports Accessories Magazine, “featuring intricate pearl, crystal and beaded styles as seen at Monique Lhuillier.”
Pippa Middleton’s pearl-studded veil by Giles Deacon set the stage in May; look for next spring’s brides to emulate her timeless style. From long, embroidered veils at Oscar de la Renta to birdcage veils at Sachin & Babi, S/S ’18 brides have an unprecedented selection.
Crowns & Tiaras
Several designers are offering crowns, tiaras and headbands as youthful alternatives to the traditional veil. At Sarah Seven, gold and pearl headbands were crisscrossed to great effect. On their own, or with precious metals, pearls in or near the hair capture the light and frame the face like a halo.
