Sciaccia Coral

Imagine a warm and sultry Mediterranean island drenched in sun-dappled shades of orange, pink, and red. Now explore our vibrant, responsibly sourced Sciacca Coral…its siren song is calling your name.

Assael Sciacca Coral is found in only one place on in the world, the Strait of Sicily. Its backstory is unique and utterly romantic, much like the colorful coral itself.

In the 1800s, intense volcanic phenomena created Ferdinandea Island near Sciacca, Sicily, producing a distinct microclimate that gave birth to a huge coral reef. Over time, due to earthquakes and more volcanic eruptions, the island became submerged and the coral fell naturally from the reef to the ocean floor far below.

Discovered on a shoal by a local fisherman, this orangey-red Mediterranean coral is today called Sciacca Coral. It has been carefully reclaimed and now is celebrated in Assael’s latest eco-conscious coral collection.

“This unique and exuberant Sciacca Coral is beloved for its intense shades of salmon-pink to orange-red,” says CEO Christina Lang Assael. “It is found in only one place on Earth, the Sicilian Channel, which is one reason why properly harvested gem coral is so valuable and precious.”

Please note: The House of Assael’s longstanding commitment to the sea and the environment means that only ethically and legally sourced coral is used in the creation of our Sciacca Coral jewelry.
